Today, Alice and I are doing our first long passage on Cadence. We are going from Perth Amboy, NJ to Greenport, NY on the Northern Fork of Long Island. Our plan is to leave Cadence at Brewer’s for the week, then cruise to Newport over the fourth.
It’s a 143 nm offshore along the Southern Long Island shore. Weather is predicted to be fine with winds 5-10 kts NW backing W. Actually perfect for Alice’s first overnight and as we are double-handed.
I will be keeping a log and updating it below:
0600: dropped our mooring. After quite a rainy night it’s a beautiful dawn. Light warm breeze, sun and cloud. Wind 7-8 NW
0709: halfway across Raritan Bay making 5.2 kts against the tide on a beam reach. I’m on watch, Alice napping. Winds 8-10 NW. Bearing 090 for Romer Shoal light our first waypoint.
How in the world did you get Alice up in time to cast off at 6 am?
