I’m guessing somebody was really, REALLY embarrassed about the time this picture was taken!
I have done a lot of stupid things aboard.
Fortunately none of them were ever photographed.
Raising the clew for better visibility is one thing but this definitely needs to go back to the sail maker for adjustment.
Well done crew (especially bowman) for spotting this!
As the photographer of this photo, I thought twice about posting this to my Flickr page. The crew on this boat was very good natured. I could hear them all laughing about their mistake, and they gave me a big wave as I sailed by, camera in hand. I’m guessing if they stumble on this post, they’ll have another laugh. Oh, and I’ve seen almost every sail hoist mistake before, many of them on my own boat.
Great picture Louis!
Glad to say that mistake isn’t one have made, but have made plenty more that hopefully can laugh about as good natured as that crew seem to have done.
This must be why roller furling jibs were invented.
Nice. I’ve seen kites going up upside down but not a head sail.
