Ticonderoga is a 80′ Herreshoff ketch. She was launched in 1936 as Tioga and then renamed Ticonderoga in 1946. She wasn’t designed for racing but for “genteel afternoon sailing”. Her owners had other ideas and she went to set more elapsed time records than any other sailboat, even beating the 19th century clipper ships. I had fortune of sailing on her once and she is a thing of sheer beauty with a clipper bow, raked rig and stunning brightworks.

I will never forget the sight of the ticonderoga arriving in the submarine port after racing from fort lauderdale in the late 70’s. a young couple was married on her bow that evening. after 30 years these pictures are overwhelming, it looks better now. Is the boat available for a wedding ?
omitted, the naval port was in key west, I was on the sailboat “Terrific”
Tell the Captain that I just met his sister and would love to meet you in St Barth’s

I worked on the Ticonderoga for a while…!
Long time ago.
So proud.
i’ve had the pleasure of sailing on her numerous times, friends of mine dad owned it for a while…many a great sail on her, a true beauty…
Does anyone know if there is a line drawing of this boat. A very old friend of mine who has been interested in sailing all his life was asking could I go on the internet to find out. can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks Dave
my Father George A Downing had the privilege of being her navigator . He raced on her for about 5 years way back when . I have some wonderful photos of her in full sail.
