It was a year ago today that we celebrated RKJ Day, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's accomplishment in being the first to sail single-handed non-stop around the world, winning the Sunday Times Golden Globe.
I was personally blown away by the participation. You can see a retrospective
but in short 35 bloggers blogged their congratulations, and 160 people showed their support on Facebook. Many tweeted too!

I was wracking my brains thinking about how to commemorate the event when I received an email from Paul Gelder, the editor of Yachting Monthly, thanking me for a recent post about his magazine. He shared the following editorial about his own personal encounters with the great man which closes with an excerpt from one of the blog posts. I knew from the producer of the H20 Show on the BBC, on which RKJ is a presenter, that RKJ heard about and was touched by our collective efforts but it was gratifying to know that everyone's hard work had spread that far.
