RKJ Day One Year On

It was a year ago today that we celebrated RKJ Day, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's accomplishment in being the first to sail single-handed non-stop around the world, winning the Sunday Times Golden Globe. I was personally blown away by the participation. You can see a retrospective here but in short 35 bloggers blogged their congratulations, and 160 people showed their support on Facebook. Many tweeted too! This year, I was lucky enough to hear Sir Robin speak at the New York Yacht club and met him in person. He did not disappoint. I was wracking my brains thinking about how to commemorate the event when I received an email from Paul Gelder, the editor of Yachting Monthly, thanking me for a recent post about his magazine. He shared the following editorial about his own personal encounters with the great man which closes with an excerpt from one of the blog posts. I knew from the producer of the H20 Show on the BBC, on which RKJ is a presenter, that RKJ heard about and was touched by our collective efforts but it was gratifying to know that everyone's hard work had spread that far. If you click the image it should be big enough to read. You can download the PDF here.
