Sail Charter – Grenadines

In 2004, my family and some friends chartered a Moorings 40' catamaran in the Grenadines.  The Moorings has a pretty good base next to the Tamarind Bay Hotel (a cool Little place that works well for a night or two). All the boats are on mooring balls so there is a quite a lot of schlepping around in the dinghy and waiting for the boat guys to get to you but it's generally fine. Canouan is quite small and had the worst customs and immigration I have ever experienced. It took them an hour to let in 16 people. To this day I still can't work out what they were doing. On the first day, We had a short sail from the base in Canouan to Tobago Cays. Tobago Cays is crowded but worth it. Great snorkeling, some nice little beaches and a great atmosphere in the anchorage. On day 2, we sailed down to Petite St Vincent, a funny little private island with a single hotel on it and nothing else. The next day we sailed to Chat ham Harbor on Union Island where we met Alvin a local chap who decided to join us for lunch. He literally swam up said hi, start chatting and asked us what was for lunch. He was very nice about it. Next day was the big sail up to Bequia. This a sailor's paradise. Trust me, if you haven't been to Bequia, go now. It's a great little spot. A pretty little island with very nice harbor and a great buzz to it. We stayed two days, did a bit of diving and generally had a good time hanging out. I give this 4.5 out of 5. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
