They’re currently doing the Pacific Cup and appear to be about tied for the lead in their division (D), approaching the half-way point. You can track their progress here: http://www.ionearth.com/2010/pacific-cup
Cool photo – don’t fall in!
Thanks ODock. I posted it because I thought it was a cool photo but it’s great to get the back story on it
A bit more: It’s a Jim Antrim design – built for SF Bay sailing luminary Liz Baylis in the Berkeley boatyard across the marina from O Dock. I saw it there when my boat was last hauled and it looked fast even out of the water.
For the Pac Cup, Antrim is aboard. Here’s a quote from him via the Pac Cup Facebook page:
“Too fast to blog yesterday, certainly too fast for pictures (actually the program just isn’t working). We’re kicking butt on the way to port layline with a new speed record of 20.2 knots in only about 22 knots of breeze.”
Oops! Update from the Condor blog – they’ve had major steering failure. Both rudders have failed and they’re steering by trailing a drogue. Speed down to 3-4 knots and it will be a long time before they’re sipping mai-tai’s. Life on the bleeding edge, I guess.
This is fantastic !
