Those clever guys at Vesta Sailrocket are out to beat the Outright World Sailing Record and sail their new boat at 60kts. That’s 20% faster than the record they set in 2008 and 8.5 kts faster than Hydroptere.
The Outright world speed sailing record is set by taking the average speed of a craft between two points set 500 meters apart. It’s currently held by a kite surfer.
You can read more about how they have improved the boat design here. It’s all Greek to me. Physics was never my strong suit. I think the basic premise is same boat design but less likely to fall apart but I am grossly over-simplifying. Elaine Bunting does a great job of explaining it so even I can almost understand it. There are also some great up close shots of the new boat.
Below is a video of their original trials set bizarrely to the theme tune of “The Sopranos”.
Cool! Nothing seen anything that fast! But just an idea, maybe it would be better the design creates more protection for the person on the sail rocket so that he won’t fell all that splash of water on her face and body.
Awesome man what a speed! I agree with Mark Brown its simply the best best design. Thanks for haring.
