Song for Friday

It’s the intersection of two emerging themes of this blog: Sailing Music and Nautical Livestock. Ladies and Gentlemen, Lyle Lovett’s "If I had a boat". Great song but ..er horses on boats? What is he thinking? Now a cow on a boat, that’s a different thing altogether.

  1. It’s rumored that Lyle wrote this after hearing a small child at Christmastime asking a shopping mall Santa…”I want a pony, and a boat, and….”

  2. I heard this song on the radio last night and thought “Song for Friday!” Then I thought you’d probably already used it, so I checked and here I am.
re “horses on boats what was he thinking” I give you the Doors’ “Horse Latitudes”:
When the still sea conspires an armor
    And her sullen and aborted
    Currents breed tiny monsters
    True sailing is dead
    Awkward instant
And the first animal is jettisoned
    Legs furiously pumping
    Their stiff green gallop
    And heads bob up
    Poise
    Delicate
    Pause
    Consent
    In mute nostril agony
    Carefully refined
    And sealed over
    *****
    That’s a real pick-me up.
