This surprised me. I checked the date and it wasn’t April 1st. I would never had Colbert down for a serious offshore sailor. Who knew?
Sail writes:
“This year’s Charleston Bermuda Race, set to begin May 21, will once again feature political satirist Stephen Colbert among its participants. This is the second time Colbert, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, and the host of Comedy Central’s Emmy award-winning program The Colbert Report, has sailed the race.
“The ocean has had a free ride for too long. Well, it has to deal with me now. Brace yourself, Atlantic!” Colbert says in the run-up to this year’s event.”
Colbert has done the race before – in 2005 – where his boat came in dead last. Watch him talk about the experience on Letterman (link below) – it’s amazing anyone talked him into doing it again!
