I am less than a fan of the whole cruiseboat thing. I can think of nothing more boring than being stuck on a floating hotel with a thousand strangers, stuffing myself silly. This however caught my attention. It is a little out of date and I apologize if it’s old news but it was too weird not to share.
It’s an 1/8th scale model of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Majesty of The Sea. It was built by a now-retired French miner, Francois Zanella. He spent 3,500 hours planning and designing it
in intricate detail. It then took him 11 years to build. More precisely, 25,000 hours. It was then transported to the Saas river so Francois could spend his retirement cruising it up and down the French canals.
There are times when I wonder why I do this blogging thing (Many of my readers may share this the same notion). It takes a lot more dedication than I expected but this is something else.
He apparently was inspired by the ..er splendor of the original Majesty of The Sea built in France in 1992. You have to hand it to the guy – 28,500 hours of planning and building over 12 years. That’s some kind of homage. It only took Michelangelo 4 years to complete the Sistine Chapel.
I can imagine the following chat over a breakfast one morning:
Mrs Z: “Bonjour, Francois. Vous etes lost in deep thought?”
Mr Z: “Oui, ma cheri. I have a big idee”
Mrs Z: “Tellez-le moi, mon cheri”
Mr Z: “Je need un hobby”
Mrs Z (hopefully): “La collection des stamps?”
Mr Z: “Non je vais spender the next 12 years, building, un 33 metre model de la magnifique Majesty of the Sea.”
Mrs Z: “Cherchez the lawyer, buster!”
Here is Mr Z at work. God bless him.
It took my husband 12,500 hours, over 6 years to rebuild the Schooner MISTRESS, but at least we can actually sail her. Wow! This is some kind of wife.
