Just outside the Top 10 Sailing Songs were a bunch of great songs that each got several votes. As you can see, the Parrotheads strike again. Damn , Jimmy B has a lot of great songs and a ton of passionate fans.
There are some nice surprises that I haven’t heard for a long time, like Split Enz’ Six Months in a Leaky Boat and Otis Redding’s Dock of Bay.
The most polarizing song is Chris Cross’s Sailing. there were as many people wanted it banned from the list as wanted it on. Thinking only positive thoughts it got an honorable mention.
Here’s the full list of Honorable Mentions:
Rod Stewart – Sailing
Jimmy Buffett – The Captain and the Kid
Jimmy Buffet – one particular harbor
Burl Ives- What do you do with a drunken sailor
Lindisfarne – Fog on the Tyne
Enya – Sail Away
Gordon Lightfoot – Ghosts of Cape Horn
Split Enz – Six months in a leaky boat
Little River Band – Cool Change
Enya – Orinoco Flow
Jimmy Buffet – Pirate
Grateful Dead – Ship of Fools
Jimmy Buffet – mother ocean
Paul Simon – American Tune
Blue4s Image Ride Captain Ride
Jack Johnson- A Pirate Looks at Forty
Chris De Burgh – Sailing Away
Eric Bogel’ – Safe in the Harbor
Jimmy Buffett- Mother Ocean
Loggins and Messina – Vahevala
Grand Funk Railroad -Closer to my Home
CSNY – Wooden Ships
Christopher Cross – Sailing
Otis Redding – Dock of the Bay
Beach Boys – Sail On Sailor
Dire Straits – Singlehanded Sailor
Great list. But I noticed one thing. You have Jimmy Buffet’s “mother ocean” and “Mother Ocean” listed separately. To the best of my knowlege the correct title of the song that starts off “Mother, mother, ocean” is actually “A Pirate Looks at Forty”.
Then you also have Jimmy Buffet’s “Pirate” listed. I’m not aware of such a song unless this is also a reference to “A Pirate Looks at Forty”.
And then you have the same song by Jack Johnson listed.
I wonder if the votes for all these four items were consolidates it would make the top ten?
