  2. It actually looks like a fish finder transducer. Normally they’re mounted on the transom, but in this case it looks like it’s mounted _backwards_ on the bow, using a fiberglassed on stick.

  5. It looks like something electromagnetic, stuck on with epoxy putty. Since it’s above the water line, it wouldn’t have anything to to with fish-finding or other underwater soundings. My initial thought was something having to do with keeping the anchor from swinging around, but in a boat this size, people don’t generally worry about the anchor — and judging from the boat’s appearance, its owners aren’t too worried about dings in the bow anyway.
    I’m thinking the camera mount idea might not be too far off …

  6. the cable in the photo that is on the bow stem of the yacht i think is a earthing cable for lightening strikes as the tall aluminium mast are great electical conductors,and since electricity likes to take a direct path to earth and in this case its the sea,lake or ocean so as it flow down the mast it comes to the hull and wood or fiberglass are not good conductors so it will come to a sudden halt but lightening doesn’t like sudden halts and well blast its way through that maybe the deck cabin or hull to reach its final objective the water, steel hulls are worst it will light up like fly zapper in a fastfood outlet so to avoid this you run a cable from the bottom of the forestay and down the bow stem to below the water line ,i would personally put it well down the stem as they have in the pic you can also make a portable one so as when a thunder storm erupts you just clip it to the forestay and drop it over and to as why its at the bow i heaar you ask simple as you don’t want enough electricity to light up a small city down the cabin or cockpit area because thats where you will be pleading and praying with god that you will never sin if you get through this cheers grant williams

  8. Hmmm… I thought I posted a response, but it doesn’t appear. Anyway…
    I think it is a depth finder transducer. The reason it’s mounted at the bow is so the helmsman can know when the water is getting shallow before discovering that with the keel. On my boat it’s mounted at the stern, but since my boat has a flat bottom and draws only 18 inches it’s not really a problem.
