Sailing Photo Of The Day – Gaffer sailing off Yarmouth IOW

Yarmouth, IOW, is one of my favorite harbors on the Solent. It's always buzzing in the summer. Yarmouth is a great old town with some excellent pubs. Sailing and pubs, what more do you need in life?

Yarmouth is also the epicenter of the annual Old Gaffers Festival. I was never really sure if this referred to the boats or the owners.

  1. They are called Gaffers becouse of the rig they have , Gaff rigged boats have a 4 sided main sail. unlike the new boats of today have a bermuda rig which is 3 sided triangle shape. The gaff will capture the slightest of breeze unlike the modern sails.
Nice to see my photo here. Keith Allso
